College Campus

and Library

Manchester.

ICL were required to design, install and commission an energy efficient lighting control system to all areas of the campus including teaching rooms, canteen, library and all communal areas inside the buildings.
Working closely with the client it was established the main control for the campus would be by means of PIR motion detection and time schedules. To achieve this we provided fully addressable switching to all luminaries using intelligent C-BUS relay modules, PIR motion detectors and a Touch screen.
The touch screen located in the caretaker’s office was programmed with a user friendly interface, using simple one touch operations the user is able to set and change time schedules in the required areas. We also programmed this screen with an emergency lighting test facility for the engineers to use.
One other requirement that had to be taken into account during design was the need for a PIR override in all the teaching rooms, to do this we added programmable switches to the rooms allowing lecturers to turn the PIR detection off during presentations and programmed them with built in timers to automatically revert back to PIR activation after a set time, this way the system can always turn the lights off should someone forget to reactivate the PIR’s on leaving the room.
